Description
Silver 1890s tobacco or snuff box marked Gorham Sterling, Compliments of John Anderson & Co. “Solace” in raised repousse lettering on cover; high-quality, heavy little box.Comes with a small card identifying it as the 1894 tobacco case of Jophia van Dyke, a New England artist, freemason and gun club enthusiast who loved to participate in shooting tournaments. Passed down through relatives and now available for your collection.
3.5” long x 2.25” wide x .75” high. About 3.35 ounces or 95 grams. Strong closure; no damage beyond minor surface scratches to outside. Inside is a slightly rough mark that may be old polish.
I don’t polish silver since some collectors prefer not to, but I believe it would polish nicely.
