  • Condition: This box is in good antique condition with no repairs, good crisp engraving. The applied handle is firmly attached and the lid fits snuggly. The Chinese stamp and initial mark on the bottom are both clear.

    Description

    This small rectangular Chinese box is 1 1/4" long, 3/4" wide, and 1 3/8" tall (to top of handle).  It weighs 27 grams.
    This box is covered with bands of floral decoration.  The handle is connected thru applied strapwork that  surrounds the bottom of the box, then climbs up each end to a small bird, from to which the handle is attached and behind which the handle can swivel from this mount. On the top horizontal section of the handle there is also applied wire on both sides of a further small centered handle, which resembles one for a briefcase or suitcase.  The handle has two circles pierced at either vertical end.  This is an intricate little piece.
    The lip has a small loop at center, surrounded by floral decoration and a rim or crosshatched engraving.
    This box is marked with a Chinese character and CS on the bottom. Possibly Cumshing.
