Description
Vintage item might have some collectible interest; it is a 12"-tall "syringe" made out of folded red construction paper. On the front, it says "Reserve 7-16-57 for / Polio / Mr. Johnson" and there is a neatly hand-written poem inside on white paper (the glue has dried and it is now loose). The poem reads:Tuesday July 16,
today
, is the day,
You had better take advantage of, or tonight you'll pay.
For in name and in mud, you become stuck
Such forgetters deserve such delightful muck.
Little David Porter wasn't afraid of what he got,
So be a big boy
today
and take time to get shot.
Cost might be an excuse for skimpers, such as we,
But please remember these shots are even given free.
Take the amount of time you usually do for air,
For if you wait any longer, those polio bugs may become a pair!
9 mos. to 40 yrs. is the age,
County Health Center's the place.
8:30-11:30 A.M. is the time,
Please show your face!!!
This is fascinating, and certainly is a bit of history that has renewed relevance.
