Description
This piece was purchased from the estate of a German/Bavarian folk art collector. It came with a piece of paper stating some provenance. The construction, materials, and paint all seem right on this piece. It is primitive and we have no reason to dispute its 18th century origins. We believe this is a Kronenberg Brewery commemorative beer pitcher, it has the date 1664 painted on the front. You typically find these constructions in tankards - but this one is clearly a pitcher. We have seen similar handle constructions on 18th century pieces that have appeared at auction. The piece measures 8 1/4" tall by 12 5/8" at its widest. It is farm branded on the bottom of the piece. The paper remnants on the bottom will remove, but are the result of the primitive varnish that was used on the piece that becomes tacky under too much heat - left there for photos, will remove upon request of new owner. The piece was clearly used for a faux floral arrangement by a previous owner (see floral fixatives at bottom of inside of base - will also remove). Please read condition report and see photos.About Buttercup Antiques…
